Institute of Sport Industry Development of SUS is a substantive research institute founded by Shanghai University of Sport in November 2013 for developing the sport industry in Shanghai and China. By integrating research capability in sports events, sports lotteries and international car racing, this new applied research entity now is approved and planned by Shanghai Municipal Education Commission as the third batch of academic service platform.
Supported by Shanghai University of Sports, the Institute well combines discipline superiority in sports humanistic sociology, sports events operation, sports management and leisure sports with abundant resources of Shanghai Leading Academic Discipline Project, Key Research Bases for Humanities and Social Sciences in Shanghai Universities, National Science Park of SUS and Chinese Association of Sport Industry to meet development needs in sport industry and break the traditional pattern of discipline construction in colleges and universities. What's more, the relationship with other bodies are strengthened, resources of the government, society and enterprises integrated and the system innovated to realize the high-efficient operation of the Institute. By far, we have set up departments including Research Center of Sport Industry Strategy and Policy, Sport Industry Information and Data Center, and Sport Industry Talents Training Center to promote two specialized platforms leading in China--one for sport industry development strategy and policy and the other for public services of sport industry information and data. In this way, we can forge a high-end interdisciplinary knowledge service organization at a high starting point.
The Institute aims to deepen sport industry research and develop academic exchange center so as to drive national and local economic development. The Institute strictly observes the idea of "co-construction and sharing", and attaches great importance to building a "national service brand in sport industry knowledge" and a "highland for sport industry data". With innovation of mechanism and combination of school and social research capability, we have created a team composed of full-time and part-time researchers and several project-driven groups to undertake various cross-sectional/longitudinal research topics. The Institute will work hard to harvest a series of symbolic achievements in academic research, policy-making consulting, social services, talent cultivation, international exchanges and platform construction in five years, thus making it an industry-university-research demonstration base in sport industry not only advanced in China but renowned in the world.
The Institute will persevere in the development orientation of "servicing Yangtze River Delta and China with a foothold in Shanghai" to innovate the scientific research system and give full play to the platform so as to promote sound and fast development of our sport industry.
